Privacy policy
Short version: this site collects almost nothing, sells nothing, and has no interest in following you around the internet. The long version is below, because a privacy policy that only says the short version is not much use to anyone.
Who runs this site
portsmouthvote.org/ is a nonpartisan voter education program of the Olde Towne Business Association Legislative Committee. The site is produced by Total Media Lab. The OTBA Legislative Committee is the editorial owner of record and the contact for any question about this policy.
What we collect from ordinary visitors
Nothing that identifies you. There is no account system, no newsletter signup, no email capture, no advertising network, no remarketing tag, and no social media tracking pixel anywhere on this site.
Our web host records standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. That is a function of running a website at all rather than something we do to learn about you, and we do not use those logs to build a profile of anyone.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies on ordinary visitors. Cookies are set only for people who log in to administer the site, and only to keep them logged in.
Video
Interviews are hosted on YouTube and embedded here using the privacy-enhanced player. Nothing loads from YouTube when a page opens. Each video shows a placeholder, and the player is only requested when you press play. Until you do, YouTube receives no request from this site and sets nothing on your device.
Once you press play, your interaction is with YouTube and Google’s privacy policy applies to it. If you would rather not deal with YouTube at all, every video is also available through the links on each candidate page.
Candidate registration
There is exactly one form on this site, at the registration page, and it is available only to candidates who received an invitation. It is not indexed by search engines.
It collects the information needed to schedule and produce an interview: name, name as it appears on the ballot, office sought, contact details for the candidate or their designated scheduler, a chosen recording time, and agreement to the release.
That information is used to schedule the recording and to produce the video. It is sent to the Legislative Committee and to the producer. It is not published, not shared with any other candidate, not sold, not given to press, and not used for any other purpose.
Stored form entries are deleted from this website after the election is certified. The permanent record is the signed release, kept offline by the Committee and the producer. Access to the entries in the website’s admin is limited to a single account.
Analytics
If this site ever uses analytics, it will be a privacy-respecting service that does not build cross-site profiles, and this page will say so before it is switched on. There are no advertising or remarketing tags on this site and there never will be.
Who we share information with
Nobody, other than the service providers required to run the site: our web host, our content delivery and security provider, and YouTube when you choose to play a video. We do not sell, rent, or trade any information to anyone, and we do not provide contact information to campaigns, to press, or to other candidates.
Your choices
If you are a candidate and you want to know what we hold about you, or you want it corrected or deleted, contact the Legislative Committee and we will handle it. If you have submitted nothing to this site, we hold nothing about you to begin with.
Children
This site is aimed at Portsmouth voters. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version is posted here with a new date. Material changes to how registration data is handled will also be communicated to the candidates affected.
